By John Ross Jr

Aberdeen-based smoked salmon producer, John Ross Jr, has once again been recognised for achieving the highest quality levels in food production after it was awarded Grade AA certification for the Global Standard for Food Safety from BRC Global Standards.

It is the seventh consecutive year that the family-owned and operated firm has received Grade A or above.

The globally recognised certification programme, which is also the seventh and latest Issue to be released by BRC Global Standards, highlight’s the smokehouse's commitment to the highest standards within the food production industry.

The launch of the seventh Issue of the BRC Global Standard for Food Safety welcomed new additions to the certification process including systems to reduce exposure to fraud, the flexibility to include additional modules to help reduce the audit burden and the encouragement of greater transparency and traceability within the supply chain.

Founded in 1987, John Ross Jr now exports Scottish smoked salmon to 34 countries around the globe.

On the certification, Christopher Leigh, Managing Director at John Ross Jr, comments: "The value of Grade A Global Standard for Food Safety continues to increase year on year as awareness of what it is and what it stands for continues to grow. Similar to the Royal Warrant, which also sends a strong quality message overseas and within the UK, Grade A certification reinforces our commitment to producing a quality product using the world’s most rigorous food safety management plan. We’re delighted to have received this certification once again and view it as an integral component in our international trade programme."

Launched in 1998 as a way in which to represent the latest thinking in food safety, the BRC Global Standard has been updated at regular intervals in order to provide a current and comprehensive best practice framework for food manufacturers. The certification is now used by food service companies around the world as a way in which to benchmark suppliers and ensure that they adhere to the highest levels of food safety.

Nigel Scott, Head of Marketing at BRC Global Standards, adds: "The BRC Global Standard for Food Safety provides producers with the opportunity to demonstrate confidence in their own systems and procedures. It also tells their customers that operational and quality systems are being kept in good order."
